Steven R. Linnabary

Steven R. Linnabary, a widower with two children in Columbus public schools, is a long-time community activist and earns a living as an engineering project representative.

A caring and involved parent, Steve raised two young children on his own for the last ten years. His daughter Drew, 12, is enrolled in the Arts Impact Middle School and son Jody, 15, is a student at the Columbus Alternative High School.

A 15-year resident of Mifflin Township, he has been a leader in the community and served on two boards of directors. In 1979, he helped organize The Ark House, a group home for the developmentally disabled. For the first six years, the home operated with no government funding. Today, he is president of the Ark House’s board of directors. Linnabary also served on the board of directors for the Community Family Health Center, which included a local free clinic, from 1985 to 1988.

He also helped found the St. John’s Community Kitchen in the late 1970’s, which is a privately funded free lunch program. In addition, Steve helped organize Friends of the Homeless on East Main Street. As a result of his continued work and commitment to the homeless, he received a certificate of appreciation from this group. An award of recognition was also received from the Disabled American Veterans in 1973.

A leader in the political arena, Steve’s concern for the preservation of civil liberties has led to political involvement at the national, state, and local levels. In the 1980’s, he served as vice chair of the Libertarian Party of Ohio (LPO) and as a region representative to the LPO executive committee. In the past 15 years, he served Ohio and other Midwest Libertarians as a regional representative to the Libertarian National Committee for three terms from 1985 to 1989 and 1993 to 1996.

Steve, 45, grew up in the Columbus area, attended public schools, and studied surveying at the University of Kentucky in Lexington. With several years of consulting experience, he is currently employed by Quality Control Inspections as a representative in the civil engineering field.
